Katherine Prater

Research Scientist, Educator/Professor

Dr. Katherine E. Prater is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Washington. She earned her PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan, where she researched individual differences in resilience to fear. Dr. Prater’s research at the University of Washington focuses on understanding of the role of microglia in resilience to neurodegenerative diseases. Her research employs advanced techniques such as single-nucleus RNA sequencing to explore microglial responses to Alzheimer’s pathology. Dr. Prater has published extensively in high-impact journals and has received numerous awards, including the NIH K22 Career Transition Award, the New Investigator Award from the Alzheimer’s Association, and the Warren Alpert Distinguished Scholars Award. She is also a dedicated mentor and educator. Dr. Prater’s research goal is to identify the cellular and molecular contributions to resilience to identify novel potential therapeutic targets for Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
